Verity Lambert (1935–2007) was a pioneering English television producer and the founding creative force behind Doctor Who, the BBC science-fiction series that became one of the most enduring cultural phenomena in broadcast history.

At only 27, she was appointed the first producer of the show — and at a time when women were almost never entrusted with major creative authority in television. Lambert shaped the DNA of Doctor Who from the ground up: she championed the mysterious, morally complex Doctor, insisted that the show should respect the intelligence of children, brought in writer Terry Nation, and pushed forward with the terrifying but unforgettable Daleks despite initial resistance from BBC management.
Her instinct for tone, pacing, character, and danger turned Doctor Who from a modest educational concept into a landmark of imaginative storytelling. Every later era of the franchise, no matter the actors or showrunners, still rests on the creative foundations she established — Verity Lambert didn’t just produce Doctor Who, she authored its myth.
Verity Lambert, English television and film producer who co-created Dr. Who, was born on November 27, 1935 and died on November 22, 2007.

When I started working on women's history about thirty years ago, the field did not exist. People did not think that women had a history worth knowing.
