Gustave Eiffel

Gustave Eiffel, the renowned French engineer who designed and oversaw the construction of the Eiffel Tower, was born on December 15, 1832, in Dijon, France. Eiffel was educated in France and Germany, where he studied engineering and received a degree in civil engineering from the École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures in Paris.

After completing his education, Eiffel began his career as an engineer, working on various projects throughout France and eventually gaining a reputation for his expertise in metal construction. He founded his own company, Compagnie des Établissements Eiffel, in 1866, which would later become known for designing and constructing numerous bridges, railway stations, and other notable structures.

One of Eiffel’s most significant projects before the Eiffel Tower was the construction of the Garabit viaduct, a railway bridge in central France that was completed in 1884. The bridge was an engineering marvel at the time, and Eiffel’s success with the project helped to establish his reputation as one of the leading engineers of his era.
