Mark Shuttleworth

In 2002, Mark Shuttleworth made history by becoming the second self-funded space tourist and the first African in space. He traveled to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard the Russian Soyuz spacecraft during a mission called “Soyuz TM-34” and spent eight days on the ISS as a space tourist. This journey into space cost Shuttleworth a reported $20 million, which he funded himself.
