It Happened on December 16, 1946
Christian Dior was a French fashion designer who founded his eponymous fashion house in Paris in 1946. The first few years of Dior’s fashion house were marked by tremendous success and innovation. Dior’s first collection, which he presented in 1947, was called the “New Look” and featured full, voluminous skirts and a cinched waistline. The collection was a departure from the more utilitarian styles that had been popular during World War II, and it received widespread acclaim from fashion critics and consumers alike.
Dior’s fashion house quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality, luxurious clothing and accessories, and it became one of the most influential fashion houses in the world. Dior’s designs were known for their attention to detail and use of fine fabrics, and they were popular with celebrities and socialites. In the early 1950s, Dior expanded his fashion empire to include a range of fragrances, makeup, and home decor items. Despite his untimely death in 1957 at the age of 52, Dior’s fashion house continued to thrive and remains a major player in the global fashion industry to this day.
