In what Jones termed “revolutionary suicide”, Jones and the members of his inner circle planned and orchestrated a mass murder-suicide in his remote jungle commune at Jonestown, Guyana.

The Peoples Temple, led by Jim Jones, played a significant role in George Moscone‘s 1975 mayoral election victory in San Francisco. In return for the group’s political support, Mayor Moscone appointed Jones as the Chairman of the San Francisco Housing Authority. Muscone would be assasinated 9 days later.
