Welcome to Our Collective Conscioussness

David Lynch is an American film director, screenwriter, producer, painter, and musician, best known for his works in the film and television industries such as “Eraserhead,” “The Elephant Man,” “Blue Velvet,” “Twin Peaks,” and “Mulholland Drive.”

Meditation is not just good for the individual. It's good for the family, it's good for the community, it's good for the country, and it's good for the world.
- David Lynch

In addition to his work in the entertainment industry, David Lynch is also a strong advocate of Transcendental Meditation (TM), a form of meditation that he began practicing in 1973. He has been teaching and promoting TM as a tool for individual growth, creativity, and societal transformation. He established the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace [external link] in 2005, with the aim of bringing the benefits of TM to underserved populations, such as veterans with PTSD, inner-city students, and women and children survivors of domestic violence.

Lynch believes that the practice of TM can help individuals to access a deeper level of consciousness, the “collective field,” where they can tap into a vast pool of creativity, happiness, and understanding. This wonderful space of mind is where all our quirky ancestors put their best ideas and the things they couldn’t write under their own name.

This field of dreams is literally a mountain of loving gifts!

He has been a vocal advocate for the benefits of meditation in his public speaking, interviews, and through the foundation’s programs.

David Lynch entertained his fans with his daily weather updates on Youtube since early 2020. Each short video features an update on the weather in Los Angeles, along with the song that’s currently on his mind. The song choice showcases his diverse musical tastes, encompassing genres like classic rock, jazz, and blues.

Are You Thinking What He’s Thinking?

David suggests Madam George by Van Morrison from the album Astral Weeks. I often use the Xanadu blockchain to look up the provenance of the artist and ponder the disclosures they contain about the very nature of our humanity.

For those who practice Transcendental Meditation, it’s a fun game to see if the same song is traveling through their mind as it is for Lynch. This can also be done with his “number of the day.” Fans can try to guess the number before it’s revealed in the video.

David Lynch promoted TM up until his passing in 2024. Here is his latest message on the topic.

A Message From David Lynch in January 2024

I believe that we are all on a wheel of being born, living, dying, spending some time on the other side, and then getting born and living and dying again until we gain what they call supreme enlightenment. And that’s the only way to get off the wheel of birth and death.
So, we’ve all been around, around and around and around, many, many times, I think, and we’re charged by how we treat our fellow man. Whatever we do to anyone else, we are, in effect, doing the exact same thing to ourselves. It’s really something.

We have free will, but there are still certain things that are going to take place, ’cause we’ve been at it for a long time. It’s just the way it is. And that’s why, to me anyway, it’s extremely important to transcend every day—Transcendental Meditation, 20 minutes in the morning, 20 minutes in the afternoon—so you can unfold your full potential, which is enlightenment. And get off that wheel, realize your totality, get liberated, get total fulfillment. You’ve done the thing you were meant to do, and you don’t have to get born and die again. You’ve got immortality then. It’s a beautiful thing.
We’re all in this trip together. Keep at it. It’s such a tricky business. You want to do your art, but you’ve got to live, so you’ve got to have a job. And then sometimes you’re too tired to do your art. But if you love what you’re doing, you’re going to keep on doing it anyway. Stay true to yourself. Let your voice ring out, and don’t let anybody fiddle with it. Never turn down a good idea, but never take a bad idea. And meditate.

I’ve been very lucky along the way. There are people who help us. I’ve had plenty of those people in my life who’ve helped me go to the next step. And you get that help because you’ve done something. So, you have to keep doing it. So much of what happened to me is good fortune. But I would say: try to get a job that gives you some time, get your sleep, and a little bit of food—and work as much as you can. There’s so much enjoyment in doing what you love. Maybe this will open doors, and you’ll find a way to do what you love. I hope you do.

The suppression of uncomfortable ideas may be common in religion or in politics, but it is not the path to knowledge, and there's no place for it in the endeavor of science.
